Lessons from Corona: on Teaching Children with Hearing Loss to Listen and Speak
For more than 25 years, it has been my privilege to support families on the journey of hearing loss, from the despair of diagnosis, to the hope that arrives when their child speaks their first words, to the sheer joy of watching their child achieve listening, spoken language and literacy outcomes on par with their hearing friends.
Promoting learning through listening is key to the success of the Auditory Verbal approach. This analysis is a 10 year audit of spoken language outcomes for pre-school children following a family centred, early intervention programme in the UK. Equipping families with the skills to support their children is key to the successful outcomes.
